Help & Support
Live Traffic NSW is the official source of all disruptions affecting travel on roads across NSW.
Owned by Transport for NSW, Live Traffic NSW provides real-time information on road incidents and changed traffic conditions to enable motorists to make informed and safe decisions when planning to travel on the NSW road network.
Transport for NSW’s Transport Management Centre (TMC) publishes information on state road incidents and traffic conditions 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The TMC use advanced monitoring, communication and traffic management systems to:
- Monitor 18,000km of state road network
- Respond to and clear traffic incidents as quickly as possible to keep traffic flowing
- Provide up-to-date and accurate advice to motorists on changing road conditions
Information on local and regional road disruptions is provided by local councils. Councils across all local government areas in NSW are invited to publish information on Live Traffic NSW.
The information provided by the councils below varies according to their hours of operation and road monitoring capabilities.
All local and regional road entries published on Live Traffic NSW provide the contact details of the reporting council.
All state road entries are managed solely by the TMC and are listed as being ‘Reported by: Transport for NSW’.
To plan your next road trip using Live Traffic NSW enter your origin and destination locations to see three route suggestions. These route suggestions are provided by Google™. Each route suggestion shows the estimated travel time and any hazards or changed traffic conditions affecting the route. You can also choose to display Rest Areas or Traffic Cameras along the route.
Road closures
Polylines on Live Traffic are used to indicate when roads are fully closed in both directions. See the incident advice to find exclusions, such as residential access or access for 4WDs.
If a road is opened in one direction or open to light vehicles, the polyline will be removed from Live Traffic NSW. Always read the incident advice as different restrictions may apply to different vehicle types (height, width, weight, oversize and over mass). If there is no alternative or detour route specifically suggested for your vehicle type contact the Transport Management Centre on 131 700 before travelling.
What is the Restricted Access Vehicle (RAV) Map?
The RAV map provides the locations of road network restrictions and approved routes for the following heavy vehicle combinations:
- 4.6m high vehicles
- 19m B-doubles (over 50 tonnes)
- 23m B-doubles
- 25/26m B-doubles
